Where to Eat During SXSW

As the home of huge festivals, Austin is known for live music, great food, and a level of weird unseen anywhere else in the country. Today, we’re focusing on one of our favorite topics: what and where to eat during the SXSW Festival. pepper_salt_400x272

Austin’s food scene is so diverse and well-known that even Fodor’s wrote Where to Eat in Austin During SXSW 2015 a couple of weeks ago. We agree with the list provided there, and wanted to add a few more of our favorites.

Vegetarian? Have no fear. Along with Austin’s reputation for exquisite BBQ, there are thriving vegetarian and vegan communities and no one will even look at you funny when you order veggies – no cheese please.

You can’t come to Austin without eating at a food truck. Unlike the “roach coaches” of the past, Austin’s mobile eateries are the epitome of the city’s taste for gourmet. Check out The Midway Food Park for tacos, Thai food, cheesecake, and more. When the weather’s nice, they even have live music! You can’t get much more Austin than that!

Biscuits and Groovy – Do you like breakfast? Do you like biscuits? Visit Biscuits and Groovy in Hyde Park, at 51st and Duval St. With menu items like The M.C. Hammer (a buttermilk biscuit with two scrambled eggs and bacon or sausage, topped with cheese and chives) and The Bee Gee (a buttermilk biscuit with butter and jam), you simply can’t go wrong.

Home Slice – This New York-style pizzeria on South Congress is guaranteed to please, with pizza by the slice or by the pie, and options for eating in or taking it on the run. Local tip – if you have the time to eat in (the dine-in side of the restaurant is closed on Tuesdays), try the Pear Gorgonzola salad alongside a slice with your favorite toppings.

Hopdoddy – This ain’t your typical greasy burger place. Hop (beer) + doddy (nickname given to the native cow in Aberdeen, Scotland) serves up some of the best burgers, fries, and shakes you’ll find anywhere. Be sure to ask about the special shake or adult beverage of the day.

Austin Java might sneak through your consciousness as “just a coffee shop,” but we promise – if you take the time to sample a bite, you’ll see why this place is always hopping. Weather during SXSW looks to be pretty fabulous, with some possibly chilly evenings, so consider stopping by for a cup of their famous spicy African peanut soup or awesome chips and queso.

You can’t talk about Austin eateries without talking about BBQ. There are enough BBQ joints in town that you could eat at a different one every day for all of SXSW, and possibly even longer. Here are links to a few of the best BBQ places in town: County Line, Rudy’s, Franklin Barbecue, Green Mesquite, and The Salt Lick.

Regardless of where and what you decide to eat during SXSW, let Austin Choice Limo get you there in style, without having to worry about parking or traffic.
